Bird census is conducted every two years in Nal Sarovar and Thol Bird Sanctuary by the Forest Department of Gujarat, a leading state in the conservation of migratory birds.
The recent Yali bird count has seen an unprecedented increase in the number of birds at Nal Sarovar. While in Kutch, the first bird census has recorded a large number of birds. More than 5,12.00 birds of 121 species were recorded in Nal Sarov, the highest ever counted. While more than 2,00 birds of 6 species were recorded in Bhola.
According to the bird census conducted in the year 2015, more than 15.0 birds of 12 breeding species and more than 2,000 birds of different species were recorded at Nal Sarovar. The Wildlife Habitat Improvement Work carried out by the Forest Department of the State Government at Nal Sarovar as part of the campaign for cleaning and disposal of plastic waste has yielded positive results.
Nalsarovar and Dhol Bird Survival Society has been formed by the State Government to promote proper union and development of Nal Sarovar and Kol Bird Sanctuary. Compared to other states of the country, the number of migratory birds in the show and the variety in the show is gradually increasing due to the greater number and diversity of marine and underground floodplains in the state of Gujarat.
Good rainfall across the state last year has resulted in satisfactory storage of water in all the low-lying areas of the state. With this in mind, for the first time in the large and small deserts of Kutch, with the help of ornithologists, a bird census was carried out by the forest department of the state government.
In the big ray of Kutch a very large nesting colony of lemongas was declared a state bird. More than 200 flamingos were recorded in the large and small deserts of Kahe, including more than three lakh cubs. The famous ornithologist for the observation of Pina's arrival.
The Bird Bing operation has been started with the help of the Bombay Natural History Society founded by Salim Ali. The bird count conducted by the Forest Department at Nal Sarovar and Ghee P Sanctuary was attended by specially invited ornithologists from across the state as well as officers and staff of the bio-department and a total of more than 150 persons participated.
